Hey y'all! Thanks for visiting Platinum Cake Designs (PCD). We're a custom cake business operating in a private cake studio in Decatur, Georgia and serves the Atlanta metro area. We specialize in uniquely designed, custom, decorated cakes, and we also offer custom cookies and cupcakes.

At PCD, there are 4 characteristics that set our cake business apart: delicious taste, imaginative designs, experienced professionals, and an eco-conscious cake studio. We'd love to be a part of your special event and make your memories sweeter.

TASTE

We have done extensive recipe testing to ensure we create not only a beautiful dessert but also a delicious dessert.  We bake all our desserts from scratch and made-to-order.  Additionally, we use high quality, locally-sourced and/or organic ingredients whenever possible.

At PCD, we care about the environment.  We are part of a composting collaboration to address any food waste.  In addition, we use compostable bags for all our cookies, and we recycle.  We are considerate of our carbon footprint, so we incorporate eco-conscious materials whenever possible.

Pastry Chef Nevia Giles is the owner and cake artist of Platinum Cake Designs in Decatur.  She has always had a passion for baking and cake decorating (and a sweet tooth).  This passion led her to open her cake studio in 2015.

At a young age, her mother encouraged Chef Nevia and her siblings to be imaginative in and out of the kitchen through sewing, drawing, woodworking, and gardening.  Chef Nevia continued to bake for her friends while pursuing her Business degree at Boston University.

The catalyst for starting PCD came when Chef Nevia was given the opportunity to make her sister's wedding cake.  The cake was a hit and most importantly her sister loved it.  Fast forward a few years, Chef Nevia decided to leave the utility and consulting industries after 13 years, and turn her long-term hobby into a career.  She enrolled in the Pastry and Baking program at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York.  When she started her internship at Cake Power with Cake Artist Kate Sullivan, she had her eyes opened to all the possibilities in cake and artistry.  After graduating, she came back to Atlanta and started Platinum Cake Designs.

Since starting PCD, Chef Nevia’s been on a rollercoaster ride which has lead her to compete on the Food Network’s The Big Bake.  She demonstrated a variety of decorating techniques as a guest on the show Creative Living with Lynn Lilly.  She authored a tutorial for American Cake Decorating Magazine featuring a playful flamingo.  And she has been featured in articleS in DICED and VoyageATL.  She's also taught cake and cookie decorating classes and looks forward to creating more classes in the near future.  Chef Nevia was a guest speaker at Mosaic Minds Academy, a youth arts school, for a Career Day event where she enjoyed connecting with young people.  And she's excited about the journey that lays ahead.

  • Princess swan smash cake

    Smash Cakes

    2-layer, 5" round cake finished in buttercream in a pared-down, coordinating design. The purchase of a 6" or larger cake or 24 cupcakes is required.

  • 3 tier 60th birthday cake with custom acrylic topper and edible photo album

    Additional Services

    Acrylic Cake Toppers start at $45.
    Edible Images can be added (need at least 2 weeks lead time)

    Delivery

    Delivery is $50 in the Metro Atlanta area + $5 every 5 miles from our cake studio. An additional charge of $50 is assessed for deliveries after hours, Sundays, Mondays, and holidays.

Our Process

We enjoy collaborating with our clients to express their unique style for their event to create a deliciously, stunning custom dessert. Here's how we'll work together:

  • The first step is to fill out our PCD Inquiry Form. This is a comprehensive form that will give us more information about you, your event, and your dessert, and the complexity of the design.

  • Next, we’ll contact you via e-mail to schedule a 15-minute phone consultation. This gives us an opportunity to get to know you, answer any questions you may have, review the Form, and provide you with a quote.

  • If you decide to schedule an in-person consultation, then we will review the same information as the phone consultation plus we will offer up to 3 cake pairings for you and a maximum of 2 other guests to sample. There is a $50 non-refundable cake tasting fee that we will invoice when we schedule the tasting (Note: there is a $400 order minimum to setup an in-person tasting).

  • When you select us, we will email you an invoice and an agreement. (Note: If the total balance is less than $400, we will include our Terms & Conditions with the invoice.) A non-refundable retainer, 50% of the total balance, will need to be paid, and the agreement will need to be signed and returned to secure your event date. We accept all major credit cards, ACH, and Cash App.

  • Because we want your cake to reflect your unique style and taste, we do not copy other cake artists’ designs. We provide our clients with sketches once the retainer balance is paid if the total balance is over $360 and the event date is more than 21 days away. Then we can tweak the design you select, and we will email you the final design.

  • The remaining balance is due three weeks prior to your event date. Then the magic begins: decorate, bake, and deliver. We deliver all cakes over 2 tiers to ensure they make it to your event safely.

 FAQs

  • While we are not open to the public, we would love to meet you either in person or over the phone.  To setup a short phone consultation or cake tasting, please fill out our PCD Inquiry Form.

  • We are open Tuesdays - Fridays 10am to 7pm,  Saturdays 10am to 5pm, and some holidays.

  • Prices will vary depending on the dessert, design, flavor, and event location.  Please see the Pricing section for more details.

  • Yes, we deliver and setup all cakes more than one tier to ensure your cake arrives to the venue in perfect condition.  There is a delivery fee of $50 within 20 miles of our cake studio.  Beyond that perimeter we charge $5/every 5 miles.  An additional charge of $50 is assessed for Sundays, Mondays, and holidays.

  • We ask that you book at least 21 days in advance of your event.  We may not be able to accommodate orders with less than 21 days notice.  Please fill out our PCD Inquiry Form to setup a phone consultation.

  • Yes, there is a non-refundable retainer, which is 50% of the total balance.  The deposit reserves the date for your event.  The remaining balance will need to be paid 21 days prior to your event.  If you are booking within 21 days of your event, then you will need to pay the entire balance.

  • Thank you for thinking of PCD for your celebration.  We'd love to work with you on this dessert.  You can find more information in Our Process section.

  • We do offer nut-free desserts, as well as, a limited menu of gluten-friendly desserts.  Please see the Flavors section.

  • The first step is to fill out our PCD Inquiry Form to setup a short phone consultation. Phone consultations are usually 15-20 minutes.  The Form is comprehensive and will give us a better idea of your event and style.  During the consultation, we will review the Form, provide you with a quote, and address any questions you may have.

  • Yes, we provide a sketch of our designs with 2 stipulations:  The Total Balance of the order has to be $360 or greater and the Event Date has to be greater than 21 days.  Concerned about our esthetic?  Please check out our Gallery or our most recent work on Instagram.

  • Yes, we’ll bring the cake to you.  First, you'll need to fill out our PCD Inquiry Form to setup a brief phone consultation.  We charge $50 for a cake tasting with up to 6 flavor pairings to choose from for a maximum of 3 guests.  The cake tasting fee is non-refundable, and there is a minimum order amount of $400 to setup an in-person tasting.  Please check our Flavors section.

  • A sculpted cake is a cake where we need to carve and transform it from a rectangle or circle into another shape like a purse or rocket.

    A gravity defying cake is a cake that seemingly is sculpted and is standing, leaning, or hovering on it's own like the toy dinosaur or ice cream cone cakes.

    A cake with dynamic elements means there is movement and/or electronic parts (ie-sound, lights, etc) within the cake like moving hands on the watch cake or smoke from a tail pipe in the car cake.

    One cake could have one or all the characteristics above.
